Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested two people for allegedly taking bribe from a contractor here on Tuesday.
The person arrested was an executive engineer (electrical) working with the Central Public Works Department. He allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000, for clearing a bill of Rs 20 lakh from a contractor.
According to the complainant, he had earlier cleared an amount of Rs 45,000 but the official allegedly demanded for remaining amount of Rs 15,000 for clearance of the bill for different works.
However, the CBI laid a trap on Tuesday, to arrest the accused official. The CBI seized 1.34 lakh in cash and other 27 documents from the official along with gold jewelry and other documents with more cash of Rs 30.50 lakh.
In another case, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested another official who was the Superintendent of Central Excise and Central Tax (GST) Honnavar Range in Karnataka. He was caught while demanding for bribe by the officials.
The accused official allegedly asked Rs 50,000 as a bribe from the complainant for waiving service tax and penalty on tax returns.
He was caught by the CBI officials while accepting bribe of amount Rs 25,000. Meanwhile, more searches were conducted at his residence and was produced before the court in Bengaluru.
