YSRCP hints for Woman Mayor for Vishakhapatnam

Vishakhapatnam: After the results of Urban Local Bodies polls in Andhra Pradesh, the winning party which captured the Greater Vishakhapatnam Municipal Corporation with 58 out of 98 seats, is considering a woman mayor for the city.

The ruling party of AP, YSR Congress Party in the recent elections in the State, fielded around 48 women candidates and is now considering a woman mayor for Vishakhapatnam city, which will soon become executive capital of the State.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections is held on March 18, in which the Mayor’s post is reserved for Backward Classes. It is also said that the Deputy Mayor is also most likely to be elected among the woman corporations from the Kapu community. The official release of the names of candidates will be delivered within a day or two by the Chief Minister and party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

However, the news of woman mayor will not go down well with the City president Vamsikrishna Srinivasa Yadav, who was aspirant for the mayoral post. He too belongs to the Yadava community and was promised something big in 2019 elections, when he threatened the party to quit after he denied the ticket to stand for elections from Visakhapatnam East.

Meanwhile, the situation is said to be different now with the party choosing candidates among women corporators, and the party would prefer Srinivasa Yadav for some other nominated post in future.

Also, in the past Rajana Ramani served as Congress Mayor of the city, she was former TDP MLA and was also from Yadava community.
