Rs 2 Cr worth cannabis weighing 800 kg seized by police in Andhra Pradesh

Vizianagaram: Police arrested two persons for allegedly smuggling 800 kilograms of cannabis in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh here on Sunday.

According to Parvatipuram Police, the illegal substance was hidden away in a vehicle recovery van. The police seized 800 kg of cannabis from the suspects which was worth Rs 2 crore.

The area Circle Inspector Lakshmana Rao, while talking with reporters said that, “We received information regarding the smuggling of cannabis. A police team initiated checking of vehicles at Gochekka village and found a vehicle recovery van in suspicious condition. While searching the team found that the van was modified and cannabis was concealed in specially arranged shelves”.

The Inspector further added that, “The vehicle was carrying almost 800 kg of cannabis from Visakhapatnam tribal agency area. The van was going towards Bihar via Odisha”.

Meanwhile, the police booked a case against the suspects and investigating the matter further.
