Jewellery worth Rs 12 lakh stolen from Vizag temple

Vishakhapatnam: On Saturday night, burglars broke down the main door of Karakachettu Polamamba temple and decamped with Rs 12 lakh with gold jewellery.

The famous temple which is situated in the heart of the city in Vishakhapatnam became a target for burglars when they broke open the main door of the temple in Peda Waltair area and fled with gold jewellery.

The temple was opened on Sunday morning by the staff of the temple, who had closed the shrine on Saturday night. When the staff opened the shrine, they noticed that the hundi was broken and the jewllery was missing from the shrine.

Upon further asking the watchman, he said that the previous night some strangers who were talking in Hindi asked him that whether they could sleep in the temple for the night, and when he said it was not possible, they left in two vehicles.

According to police, the burglars had disconnected the 17 CC cameras which was installed inside the temple and also took away the hard disc and the video recorders. However, the temple priests expressed their shock over the incident and said that it was first time such burglary was taken place.
